SCENE #22: INT. BROWN & ABBOTT MEDICAL. ANDY’S OFFICE. DAY. (D5)

Andy and Betty are by the door, finishing up.

DOCTOR BROWN
. . . I’ll call and present it to the hospital Board today. We’ll see what they say.

BETTY
Good. Thank you.

Before he opens the door for her, he stops, faces her.

DOCTOR BROWN
I can’t guarantee this will work. Even if the hospital agrees to it, there’s a good chance it won’t have any effect.

BETTY
I know. It’s unlikely. You know what else was unlikely? The state of Israel. The very fact that we as a people have survived this long . . .
(then)
Max was right you know. Part of being Jewish - - a big part - - is remembering our history. We teach our children this, to never forget. It’s important. But another part of being Jewish is to believe. And boy, we believe some crazy things.

DOCTOR BROWN
My daughter is particularly fond of the Channukah story.

BETTY
(smiles, then)
It’s a good one. You know, you don’t always survive by being practical. You do what you can, but you leave room for a miracle. You have to.

With that, Betty lets herself out. Off Andy . . .

SCENE #23: INT. SAM’S. DAY. (D5)

The place is hopping. Amy works the tables, and spots Ephram studying at one. Should she go over and say hi? Before she can make the decision, he looks up, sees her, and smiles. No choice now. . . She heads over with a smile of her own.
