SCENE #13: CONTINUED: (3)

DOCTOR BROWN
Because anything you’re thinking about, she is, too.
(then)
Don’t worry about the conversations you have, Harold. Worry about the ones you could be having with yourself for the rest of your life. Those are the ones that kill you.

Abbott knows his friend is a world-class expert on regret, and knows his advice is good. He just doesn’t know if he can take it. Off Andy and Abbott, in no hurry to get home. . .

SCENE #14: INT. COLORADO A&M. STUDENT CENTER LOUNGE. NIGHT. (N2)

A dozen HIPSTER COLLEGE GIRLS sit on old couches, drinking soda and talking. Amy enters, excited, lugging a camera bag. She sees Maura on a couch, talking to another girl, ELLIE, who’s text-messaging on her cell. As Amy walks over . . .

ELLIE
Check it out.

Ellie shows Maura the screen on her cell phone: a phone camera picture of a hot, shirtless college hunk.

MAURA
That’s the RA in Rossmore, right? Second floor. God, he’s amazing.

They notice Amy standing there. She smiles.

AMY
Maura, right? Amy.

MAURA
Hey, Amy. Glad you made it. This is my friend, Ellie.

ELLIE
(showing her the phone)
Have you seen this guy? He’s insanely hot. And he’s gonna be a Fig tonight.

AMY
Fig?

ELLIE
It’s this underground party that happens every Friday. Moves around so campus security can’t bust it.

MAURA
You should come. Camden Hall, fifth floor. Starts at midnight.

AMY
It starts at midnight.

MAURA
It’s an afterhours thing, usually gets kicking by two AM when the bars close. Next thing you know, the sun’s up. Everybody goes to Rudy’s for eggs.

Amy hides her disappointment. There’s no way she can go.

AMY
That sounds like fun, but . . .

Maura’s surprised to see Amy’s camera bag.

MAURA
You brought your gear.

AMY
Yeah. Was I not supposed to?

MAURA
Well, tonight’s just a meet and greet. Didn’t you get the e-mail? I put it on the network.

AMY
Oh, I’m not on the campus system. I kind of live at home. For now.

Maura gets Amy’s situation. Is nice about it.

MAURA
Oh. Well, that’s cool.

ELLIE
(to the others)
Does anybody know the name of the RA on Rossmore, second floor?

Other girls come over to see the picture and like that, the meeting devolves into gossip about the hot RA and campus social life.

Off Amy, on the outside looking in . . .
